Pre-Qualifications

Minimum Age

  • At least 21 years of age

Minimum Experience (tractor Trailer/OTR)

  • 3 months of verifiable, similar, T/T experience in the past 6 months. They prefer a school in the last year as well! 

 

  • 6 months of verifiable, similar, T/T experience in the past 3 years

 

  • 1 year of verifiable, similar, T/T driving experience in the past 5 years

 

* Local, T/T experience counts for local positions ONLY

 

* JB Hunt will not consider a Driver with an automatic restriction on their license (unless they are coming in for a position that has automatic trucks)

 

* Will accept the following trailing equipment as T/T experience;

  • Trailers less than 40 feet

  • Bayside

  • Belly Dump

  • Grain or other top-loaded trailers

 

* Experience with a Trainer will count if the Driver was OTR team driving with the trainer. It will have to fall in the last year to qualify.

Refreshers

     Refreshers are not necessarily on every account but it is worth asking if it is not suggested and normally JBH can get one approved.

     It is intended for those who have been out of the industry for awhile but have clean safety and good references.

     Some limitations of accounts not having a “refresher program” is the lack of trainers on hand at the account. 

 

REFRESHER GUIDELINES

  • 6 months of applicable driving experience within the last 5 years.  Note:  Verifiable driving experience outside of 5 years but inside 10 years will be evaluated in consideration of experience qualification overall for refresher program.

  • No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years

  • No serious moving violations in the past 3 years

  • No careless or reckless driving conviction in the past 3 years

  • No major preventable accident in the past 3 years

  • No more than 1 preventable accident in a CMV; exceptions require manager approval.  Any preventable accident in the past 12 months requires management review/approval

  • Criminal convictions are evaluated individually based on the nature/gravity of the offense(s); the time elapsed since conviction and/or completion of the sentence(s) and the nature of the job.  Individual assessment required

  • No more than 1 DUI/DWI ever.  DUI must be outside of the past 10 years

  • Acceptable references from former employers and/or references or documents to sufficiently cover self-employment and employment gaps

Moving Violations (max in 3 year period)

  • No more than 3 in the last 3 years

* Based on the offense date

Policy on License suspensions

  • No more than 30 days in the last 3 years for moving violation

  • No more than 12 months in the last 3 years for non-moving violations

  • Must have a valid license for 2 out of last 3 years

DOT Recordable Accidents

  • No more than 3 minor accidents/incidents in the past 3 years 

  • No more than 1 highway accident in the past year

  • No major preventable in the last 3 years

* Major Preventable Accident Definition - Damage totaling $25,000 or more

Incidents (max in 3 year period)

  • No more than 3 incidents in the last 3 years

Ticket / Accident / Incident Combo

  • No more than 3 accidents and/or tickets

  • No more than one preventable with less than 12 months of experience

Maximum Major Moving Violation (in the last 3 years)

  • No more than 1 serious moving violation in the last 3 years

Major Moving Violations- that are automatic DQ's

  • No careless or reckless driving convictions in the last 3 years

  • No rear end or roll over accidents in the last 3 years

Max. Number of Jobs- in the last 3 years

  • No more than 6 in the last 3 years

  • The number of jobs can exceed 6 if the applicant just went to orientation, or they had a lay-off, or worked somewhere for over a year.

Policy Against Unemployment- even if it is accounted for

  • No more than 22 months of unemployment in the last 3 years

Terminated Applicants

  • Will not consider if terminated due to safety

  • Will consider terminated applicants if it was not safety related

  • 12 months Class A safe driving required since termination if the term was for accidents

  • If the term was a non-accident related safety issue, it’s usually 6 months safe driving since the term

Felony Convictions - How old must they be?
Based off the conviction date? What are the "silver bullets"?

  • All criminal convictions are reviewed on an individual basis as part of an overall review of the file. 

  • Felony drug charges must be outside of 7 years

Misdemeanors- How old must they be?

  •  All criminal convictions are reviewed on an individual basis as part of an overall review of the file.

DUI/DWI- What is the max number and what
time frames do they need to fall outside of?

  • No more than 1 and it must be outside of 5 years old

  • If Driver has 2 DUI's, they will be considered if both are prior to 2002

  • Drivers with a DUI/DWI in a CMV may be considered for employment with appropriate SAP paperwork.
