6 months of Experience


Minimum Age

  •  Must be at least 21

Minimum Experience (tractor Trailer/OTR)

Students (Trainees)

  • Student is defined as a recent graduate (within the past 60 days) of a 120-hour course from an accredited truck driving school.

  • Students will require a minimum of 160 total hours of on duty not driving and driving time combined with 120 hours of the 160 hours must be on the drive line while training with a certified Transport America Driver Instructor.

  • Drivers with less than 3 months verified over the road (OTR) experience will be required to train with a Transport America Driver Instructor.

* Applicants with less than one month of OTR driving experience will be required to train the same amount of time as a student (160/120 hours as explained above)

* Applicants with one month or more but less than three months of OTR driving experience will train for a minimum of 140 total hours (on duty and drive time combined) with at least 100 hours of the 140 as drive time



Experienced Requirements

  • At least 6 months OTR experience outside of training experience.

 * Will consider local experience if Driver is applying for a local position


LP & O/O Requirements;

  • 1 Year experience 6-12 months OTR with a single carrier

  • Truck year cannot be older than 1998 due to inability of installing ELD devices Wheelbase 265

  • Pass our DOT inspection

  • Fifth Wheel height – 48” or less

  • Weight with 100 gallons of fuel must be less than 20,500lbs – 21,000 lbs

  • If owning your own truck must have Title (Front & Back), Bill of Sale, FHUT (2290)

*  If a Driver has less than 12 months they may need to go with a Trainer TBD.

* Time spent training at a school or previous employer does not count toward driving experience requirements

* Driving credit is given for regional and OTR experience. Trailer length must be ’48 – ’53

* Drivers with only local, oil field experience will be required to train with a Driver Instructor

* Military Experience will be considered IF they provide DD214 can give pay credit. .01 for every 4 years/or if driving POS then full credit .01/year

* Drivers with less than 1-year experience must provide training certificate & be on their list of approved schools

Moving Violations (max in 3 year period)

  • No more than 3 in the last 3 years 

Serious moving violations in the past 2 years that will be reviewed by safety;

  • Improper lane change

  • Following too close

  • Speeding 15MPH or more above posted

  • Fatalities

  • Violating state or local laws that are related to a traffic accident

  • Texting while driving

  • Handheld device usage while operating a CMV

  • Failing to stop for a RR crossing

  • Reckless or careless driving within the past 5 years

*** Violating an “out of service” order while operating a CMV within the past 3 years requires a written review by safety

*** Convictions or pending charges for leaving the scene of an accident within the past 7 years requires a written review by safety

*** This is not JUST what is on their MVR but any incidents or moving violations that a past employer might have reported

Policy on License suspensions

  • License suspension or revocation in the last 12 months does not qualify


  • No more than 2 Non preventable DOT accidents in the past 3 years.

  • Any DOT reportable accidents in the last 3 years that are preventable do not qualify.  (roll over, u turn, run under, jack knife or lane change - some rear end accidents can be reviewed)

    *** This is not JUST what is on their MVR but any incidents or moving violations that a past employer might have reported 

Incidents (max in 3 year period)

  •  No more than 2 Non-DOT preventable accidents in the last 3 years

  • 3 Non-DOT preventable accidents that are "Off Highway" (parking lot incidents) are reviewable

Max. Number of Jobs- in the last 3 years

  • No more than 8 in the last 3 years 

  • Lease Drivers cannot have more than 4 jobs in the last 3 years

Policy Against Unemployment- even if it is accounted for

  • More than 12 months unemployment time in the past 3 years requires an operations review

Terminated Applicants

  • Any terminations within the past year requires a review (whether it was a driving job or not, and this includes "layoffs")

  • Terminations for safety, accidents or violence within the past 3 years requires a review

Criminal Convictions - How old must they be?
Based off the conviction date? What are the "silver bullets"?

  • Misdemeanor(s) - One in the past 7 OR 2 in a lifetime will require a written review by safety/ops

  • A felony within the past 7 years will require written review by safety/ops

No charges in the past 7 years;

  • Eluding law enforcement 

  • Violent crimes

  • Sexual misconduct

  • Manufacturing or sales of drugs

* All others will be reviewed

* No pending court cases or pending tickets 

DUI/DWI- What is the max number and what
time frames do they need to fall outside of?

  • None in the last 5 years 

  • No more than 1 in a lifetime

* Any under the influence in a CMV or being in possession of drugs or alcohol in a CMV does not qualify

Is Haz-Mat Required? Is there a grace period for
driver to obtain it?

  • Some accounts require it, see account sheet

  • Endorsement needed at the time of application if required

DOT Physical

  • Will accept current physical as long as it does not expire within 3 months

  • For a new physical, Driver must pass DOT physical from TCA

*** Drivers MUST be physically certified to cross state lines. Their medical card must list NON EXCEPTED INTERSTATE.  (excepted intra state does not qualify)

Drug Testing

  • Both urine & hair follicle

Failed or Refused Drug or Alcohol Test
